2014: The Year of the Tea Party

2013 was the “Year of the Snake,” and as one BBC World News commentator pointed out, it is “one [that is] not to be underestimated.” This symbol and characterization are not only fitting for our movement, but also for what has transpired over the last 12 months as we:

Refused to cower when targeted by the IRS

Refused to be outnumbered in the push for amnesty during the August town halls

Refused to let Senator Reid define the narrative for the government slowdown (not shutdown) Refused to cave in the Obamacare fight

Refused to be silent in the recent budget compromise

Yes, the spirit of “don’t tread on me” was alive and well this year of the snake, and it was all because of you.

Your efforts – holding local rallies, testifying about your IRS ordeal in DC, educating the public through local sign-waving events, contacting your congressman / senators, participating in the DC rallies, attending the August town halls, submitting stories about your hardships due to Obamacare, writing letters to the editor, reaching out to family and friends, engaging in the battle via social media, visiting elected officials, and so much more – helped us push back against a big, intrusive government that is out of control.

And together, we made a difference, so much that the Administration and Washington Establishment are now countering with vengeance. Under these new hurled attacks, we could sulk, or we could wear them as a badge of honor for it is a sure sign that we are making great strides in cause of liberty. As Mahatma Gandhi said, “First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win.”

From the IRS proposing new regulations that muzzle local activists to the GOP Elite declaring war on our movement, 2014 will be filled with challenges and battles. They must be fought head on, and while our opposition hopes we will grow hopeless and apathetic, we have to remember the cost of doing so risks the future of our nation.

As we ring in the New Year, let’s rededicate ourselves to the resolution of restoring our nation to the founding principles of fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government and free markets. 2014 can be more than another “Year of the Snake” –it can be the year of the Tea Party.

Happy New Year, Patriots!
