Under Obamacare, there are two Americas. In the first, hard-working citizens must abide by egregious mandates; the second protects Washington elites with exemptions for themselves and their special-interest friends. It doesn’t seem fair that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid can give his staff a pass, while citizens like Kathryn of North Carolina have to deal with the new law’s detrimental consequences, but that’s reality.
“My husband is struggling to make it on his own as a self-employed plumber. We are trying to put 2 of our 3 children through college. Both girls are studying in the medical field. We just found out today that we CANNOT keep our personal health insurance with Blue Cross Blue Shield that has gone up over $100.00 a month in the last year,” Kathryn shared.
As if the loss of coverage wasn’t enough, Kathryn learned that her new policy will stretch her already tight budget even more.
“It went from around $530 a month to $888 a month. That is just for my husband and myself. That does not even include my children. The deductible ($6,000/$12,000) and the out-of-pocket [costs] are horrible. I don’t even like looking at them,” she explained.
When asked if she will browse the exchange for another plan, Kathryn replied, “I’m not going on and signing up on their website. I am not giving them any of my information. I don’t trust any of them.”
Her distrust is well placed. Experts are sounding the alarm that all is not well with the “fixed” Healthcare.gov website. On CNBC, TrustedSec CEO David Kennedy spoke about some of the vulnerabilities that remain:
“…everything from hacking someone’s computer so when you visit the website it actually tries to hack your computer back, all the way to being able to extract email addresses, users names—first name, last name—[and] locations.”
Mr. Kennedy further explained in The Washington Free Beacon.
“I’m a little bit more skeptical now, and I would still definitely advise individuals to not use the website because it’s definitely something that I don’t believe is secure and neither did the four individuals that testified in front of Congress. I think there’s some major security concerns there around privacy and information, and they haven’t even come close to being addressed, and won’t be in the short term.”
It’s a no-win situation for the millions who’ve lost their current coverage. As Kathryn described it, they put “you between a rock and a hard place.” Like all of us, she fears the havoc this destructive law will reap on our nation.
“We are terrified about what is going to happen with Obamacare. This is going to be the biggest downfall of our great country by destroying not only the medical infrastructure, but also jobs and our deficit. There is NO WAY to pay for all this. Delay, defund and replace Obamacare with the old system until someone comes up with one that is sustainable.”
With a law that is failing so many Americans, we have one demand for Senator Reid: Please give all Americans the same privilege your staff has and exempt us from Obamacare!
