Music can soothe the soul. Maybe, that is the reason HHS’ selected the “Forget About The Price Tag” song as their winning video to promote Obamacare. Insurance costs under the new healthcare law are sending the young and old into grab-your-heart sticker shock, but the Obama Administration is hoping the good vibes from the song will wash away the premium-price misery.
Refrain: “We want to make it more fair with affordable healthcare. It ain’t about the cha-ching, cha-ching. It ain’t about the ba-bling, ba-bling. The Affordable Care Act, don’t worry about the price tag.”
Many Americans aren’t buying the song and dance. With cases like California resident Ellen – who has seen her premiums increase a couple hundred dollars each year – it is easy to understand why.
“Over the last several years, my healthcare insurance premiums have gone up from $350 a month to $1,100 a month. My deductible has gone up to $5,000. I have no major health issues,” stated Ellen. “I can barely afford that. I can’t afford anything else. I can’t go on vacation; I can’t do anything. It keeps ruining my senior years. He [Obama] keeps taking away my savings and taking away my healthcare. I’m sorry. This is not the point in my life that this should be happening. I’m really sick about it. Thankfully, my mother is older, and she will not be relying on this, but I will be.”
Ellen candidly shared her fears about the future of medical care for the older citizens. With doctors exiting the field and Medicare funds being slashed, it doesn’t look promising for those who’ve paid into the system their entire lives.
“We are getting to that age where we should be able to take advantage of the plan we have paid into all these years, and now, they are going to say, ‘You’re too old. It’s not cost-effective for us to do that.’ It’s sick,” she exclaimed.
Her fears of healthcare rationing are proving real. Mark Halperin, senior political analyst for Time magazine, made some surprisingly honest remarks about it in a recent interview, which he later recanted.
“Rationing is part of” Obamacare, Newsmax’s Steve Malzberg said Monday.
“I agree,” Halperin replied. “Huge. It’s going to be a huge issue, and that’s something else about which the president was not fully forthcoming and straightforward.”
“Alright, so you believe that there will be rationing, AKA death panels,” Malzberg pressed.
“It’s built into the plan. It’s not like a guess or like a judgment. That’s going to be part of how costs are controlled,” Halperin said.
Halperin, the co-author of the new book “Double Down: Game Change 2012” about the 2012 presidential campaign, added that a “very high percentage of our health care spending is for a very small number of people at the last stages of their life.”
“I’m not saying the system shouldn’t allow that, but there’s too much cost. There are judgments have to be made,” he said.”
Ellen confessed, “I am 61 and afraid.” When it comes to the realities of Obamacare, most Americans are in the same boat. But don’t worry. There will be more one-hit wonders from the Administration to help you forget about the ills of this bill – you can bet your cha-ching, cha-ching and ba-bling, ba-bling on it.
